A TALE OF TRANSFORMATION AND TRUSTING THE UNIVERSE, DIANA WILL UPLIFT YOU AND MAKE YOU MOVE

Hailing from Bangalore, in the southern part of the country, we have come across an ensemble of men playing some excellent and dynamic music, their paws always filled with instruments and a love for music. The name is Derek and the Cats, an 8-piece ensemble consisting of diverse musicians following the lead of Derek Mathias. After starting their journey back in 2020 with their inaugural track "Soul", the band went on to deliver a critically acclaimed performance in their debut album "Derek and the Cats", putting them on the map of Indian band music. With a similar ambition of delivering another stellar performance, they are back with their latest single "Diana", featuring Frizzell D'Souza.

Joining forces with Derek and the Cats in "Diana", which comes as their first single with vocal production, is the Mangalore-born indie sensation Frizzell D'Souza, bringing her soft pop touch to the joint. Over the past few years, Frizzell has built herself a strong catalog of singles, and her EP "The Hill Knows of You" contains some exemplary soft rock and pop performances, winning her numerous awards and granting her the opportunity to play at festivals like NH7 Weekender, Hornbill Music Festival, Gin Explorer's Festival, and Zomaland.

"The track progresses into a smoother symphony where Diana transforms into a stronger version of herself, uplifted and elevated by splashy and spicy saxophone in the background with bass riffs. As we delve deeper into the track, you start swaying along with it to the soft and bouncy vibe created by Frizzell's sliding vocals and Derek and the Cats' instrumentals, which sound like a mixture of soft rock and country, creating a perfect fusion as the backdrop for the positive outlook the character gains through hard times. Finally, she arrives at a better place in her life through her courageous steps, embodying the spirit of empowerment and trust in oneself.

The track is accompanied by a classy music video where Diana and her lover battle it out in a chess match, symbolizing her real-life situation as she tries to escape him and win herself back. The combination of Frizzell and Derek and the Cats is definitely "money," showing their exponential chemistry with excellent songwriting and harmony in sync with their track. We would definitely love to hear more from them together.

"Diana" is a story of empowerment and transformation that becomes necessary when one faces struggles in life and has no other choice but to stand up and fight. The track starts off with a soft guitar solo, tiptoeing around Frizzell's vocals as she sings "I beg and cry for one more chance" with a hint of shiver in her voice, symbolizing the broken situation of the character in the tale. Facing the emotions of betrayal and being used like a pawn, the artist drags us through the hardest of emotions with a backdrop of shiny keys and sharp guitar chords, which finally burst into a symphony of bass and synths as Frizzell hits the "Diaaaaanaaaa", breaking the flow and taking us into the newer phase of the character, a new arc altogether.

As the track moves forward, the weight of hurt, regret, and sorrow is lifted bit by bit from the character's shoulders as she is "out of the burning woods" and finally starts to see the way the universe is unfolding for her.
