FAIZAN RAHMAN REVEALS HIS TRUE SELF IN DEBUT PROJECT “LATELY/THESE DAYS”

WRITER - THERAPMAN

By now, almost everyone is familiar with his name and work. We've all heard his music in chart-topping global hits. Yes, we're talking about Faizan, the multi-genre artist from Delhi. With tracks like "Maharani" and Honey Singh's "Kalastaar" under his belt, Faizan is an artist to be reckoned with. He is one of the few artists who can be found everywhere in the scene. Throughout his illustrious career, he has collaborated with artists like Nanku, Dhanji, Frappe Ash, and many more. His versatility and beautiful melodies resonate in everyone’s songs and hearts.

Faizan recently released his debut project, a four-track extended play titled Lately / These Days. Clocking in at approximately twelve minutes, it is an exceptionally well-crafted piece of work. After listening to the project, it becomes clear why Faizan took his time releasing his first project—he wanted it to be just right, and this is it. The cover is simple yet powerful, featuring Faizan posing against a background of lights transitioning from dark to bright, possibly symbolizing the changes in his life. Kudos to the team for capturing this beautiful moment and executing the work behind it.

The first track of the EP, "Firse?", starts with a beautifully composed, written, and sung hook. The guitar riffs, especially at the beginning, stand out as the highlight of the track. The song's main theme revolves around someone who is angry with Faizan again, and he’s trying to understand why. Faizan allows the music to breathe in the middle, giving listeners time to settle into the emotions he is trying to convey. Lines like “In aankhon ka kya raaz hai, kya phirse tu naraaz hai” clearly depict how worried yet weary he is while trying to console that person.

The second track, "NICENICE," features a playful beat and a cheerful vibe. Kriday has done an amazing job with the production, using elements that make the track more engaging and distinctive. In this song, Faizan playfully addresses how he’s perceived as a nice guy, but in reality, he’s not as nice as people think—a fact that works in his favor here. The hidden meaning behind the song is about people who are only with him for favors, and he can’t grant them for free. The way he delivers the phrase "NICE NICE" in the hook, with a sarcastic yet biting tone, leaves a lasting impression. The song lightens your mood and feels like a breath of fresh air.

“Hogaya mai sabka par apna hi nhi” is probably my favorite line from my personal favorite track on the project, "Sabka / Apna." This third song feels majestic, as if Faizan has poured his soul into it. The delivery, lyrics, and composition all feel magical. The music has a retro and emotional vibe, making the song so soulful and relaxing that it feels like healing begins as soon as it plays. Faizan masterfully allows the music to take center stage at times, with no vocals, letting the emotions flow naturally. In this song, Faizan reflects on how he has lost himself while trying to be there for others, and soon, he will know who will stand by him as everything around him changes.

The final track, "Tum Bhi," is an introspective piece. The song is beautifully sung, with music that has a lofi vibe. Faizan expresses how, despite his achievements, he still feels he has done nothing. He’s confused about what people see in him because he feels he hasn’t changed—he’s the same as he’s always been. The way the hook is sung conveys deep pain, a voice yearning for validation and affirmation. It feels as though Faizan has laid bare his most personal feelings in this track, making it a perfect outro to such a great project.

Faizan’s debut project is one to remember—an emotional rollercoaster for listeners. It offers a window into the artist’s mind, taking you through a range of emotions. Meticulously arranged and beautifully executed, the project speaks volumes. These songs are perfect for a long road trip or for relaxing in a park with a book on a pleasant day. Big ups to the producers who made the project even more captivating, and to Faizan for his beautifully sung and penned verses. This project definitely gives listeners something to look forward to in his future releases. The project is available on all streaming platforms—happy listening!
