Every day is a new day that brings new beginnings, and today we feature our chat with an artist who has experienced his own new beginnings. What started as a time-killing fun activity in the backbenches during 11th grade has now become the most important “subject” of Gurru’s career. After a year-long hiatus, he is taking a new leap with his single “Artistic Dilemma” and is ready to make his mark and share his unique form of expression with the world.
You are relatively new to the Desi hip-hop scene. While you may have bigger ambitions, what are your current goals?
Honestly the only goal i have right now is to be consistent with my art and be able to deliver much better with each song that i drop plus not forgetting the fact that i have to be true to myself throughout the process.
2. You have released two singles, "Saya" and "Artistic Dilemma," with a significant gap of time between them. What was the reason for this, and was it intentional?
Not intentional at all i just was in a year long dilemma, kind of worried scared and confused with my self and art but I guess I am back much stronger than ever.
3. Take us behind the scenes of "Artistic Dilemma." What was the vision behind the track, and did you achieve what you intended?
Oooh!! I love telling people the story behind Artistic Dilemma, it’s basically a phase in every artists journey that they must have came across once where they just question everything around themselves even the fact that ,is the art and the struggle worth it or not. I think the message I wanted to convey was very well executed in this song with the help of Deep bhai and Avinash bhai.
4. We noticed something unique on your Spotify profile, with your latest track labeled as "Act 1 Begins." Can you give us some insight into this?
ACT-1 damn, I really wanna gate-keep what it is but I’ll spill the tea for y'all. "Gurru ji"rules over act-1 and revolves around him and is an insight into his wickedness. much more to come and uncover.
5. You’ve used rich instrumentation and sampled vocals in both of your singles. How did you develop a liking for this style?
I love adding hidden elements similar to how game developers add easter eggs or artists pay homage to other artists. and I just love the small things that make a song so beautiful and like these small elements for me add colour and taste to the song.
6. How challenging is it to balance your studies in a foreign country while making music?
It kinda gets on my nerves but the fact that one day its all gonna be worth it just keeps me going on and on without ever looking back, I just make sure I take out time for music even if its on the transit or be it before bed I take out whatever time I can for art.
7. What is the meaning behind your name, Gurru?
Gurru came from the way of writing I have and I feel I am able to express emotions way better and in a much different way with my music than I could iin any other way.similar to how a Gurru (teacher) would my songs are like a lessons I learnt from life maybe its something you guys will relate to or maybe its something you guys haven't yet gone through.
8. Who is Gurru's guru? Do you have a public figure that you look up to?
Quite a few honestly, one has to be my own friend Basu the reason why I'm here and in this scene has to be all because of this one guy his way of working the way he thinks about music is juts unreal and I don’t think so anyone else in my knowledge does it better than him. Other than him Kendrick Lamar, Shauharty ,Dhanji I really look forward to their art and hopefully one day I get a chance to get to work with them too.
9. What are your plans for the rest of the year, and how do you intend to end it?
Plans !!!! I'm dropping new music man super soon I’m gonna go all crazy with this years music I have in my bank and I'm not gonna hold back even a bit this year and when it comes to ending this year hopefully this year I’ll be able to drop my debut project that im not gonna reveal yet. But yes you guys will soon know what Gurru ji has in the bank for everyone.
