Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s latest upcoming album - an ode to his legendary career as one of the great qawwali singers the world has ever witnessed
The legendary Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan was a Pakistani singer, songwriter and composer. Specialising in qawwalis, a form of sufi devotional songs Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan was once in a generation artist.
Coming from the lineage of qawwali singers he started singing from the age of 15. Throughout his career he has won accolades and touched heights that very few even dream of. From influencing and collaborating with western artists such as Peter Gabriel, Eddie Vedder and Michael Brook to being regarded as the greatest qawwali singer of all times by THE NEW YORK TIMES, his career was full of achievements and highs.
Throughout his career Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan has released an illustrious body of work. Some of his world-wide popular albums include Shahen-Shah, Mustt Musst with Michael Brook and Shahbaaz all coming out in collaboration with Real World Records. Recently, the pair have again come together to announce the release of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s latest album “Chain of light” which will be released worldwide on 20 th September 2024. Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and Gabriel, the founder of Real World Records go way back in time. When in 1989 Gabriel was starting the Real World Records, he not only wanted to have artists from North America or Europe, he wanted to have artists from all over the world. He had heard Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan performing at the WOMAD festival in 1985 and was highly impressed with it and hence Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s name was the first that came into his mind and thus their journey began
Over the years between 1989 and 1990, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan Recorded many songs at various studious throughout North America. Most of the songs were released while some were left to be released in the future but could never see the light of the day. His latest album is collection of those songs. How and why these songs are being released after 27 years of his death has an interesting story behind it. When the owner Peter Gabriel was moving his tape and film archive from an older place to a new facility, they surprisingly stumbled upon some of the recorded qawwalis of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan which been never released before anywhere. In a way they found a lost treasure. Everyone was so rejoiced and happy that the manager and Gabriel decided to release the songs in the form of an album on all streaming platforms. The songs were then sent for mixing and engineering
Hence, Nusrat Fateh Ali Kahn’s latest album “Chain of light” came into existence. With eight songs, the album promises you Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan at his peak. To be honest we should feel blessed for getting listen the soothing and exhilarating voice of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan in some new songs again at this day and age. The qawwalis that come straight from the heart with vocals that are still untouched by any other singer. People will surely be hit with a lot of nostalgia while listening to that album. Since the date has been announced (20 th September 2024) people all over the world are excitedly waiting to listen to the legendary singer once again. The album is also a tribute to his
legend and is expected to go down as one of his finest works yet again.
