BOMBAY ARTIST SIEGE'S NEW EP WITH NATIQ IS A JOURNEY OF SELF-ACCEPTANCE.
"Bhaagna, Chhupna, Doobna" is Siege's latest EP and is also overall his 3rd project succeeding "really brown really rare" and "bubblecars." Siege is a rapper who captivates his listeners with his charisma, mic presence, and bars depicting his life struggle. All of this gives him an ability to connect with the audience on a deeper level. His latest EP is an example of this ability as Siege gives us a deep dive into what goes on in his mind and the demons that he struggles with.
The 5-track EP is an emotion-filled project that showcases the struggles the artist goes through in his head. His battles with his demons, fear, and other problems have led him to become who he is today, and he pours his heart into this vulnerable piece of art that is 'Bhaagna, Chhupna, Doobna.'The project kicks off with 'Swar's Intro,' a beautiful melodic blend of Swar's vocals and keys, creating a choir-like sound. In the intro, Swar reassures and comforts Siege, saying that 'everything will be okay,' providing the artist with a sense of ease from his own chaotic mind.
As soon as the intro ends and we transition into 'Bhaagna,' the moment of ease and peace for the artist is gone, and his battle resumes.'Bhaagna' is a track about the anxiety-filled life of Siege and how he has always tried to escape the demons sitting on his shoulders (wahan baitha vetaal). Siege also talks about the effects of his anxiety, leading him to have sleepless nights and hyperactivity. Siege is constantly on the run from his fears, demons, and the opinions of people, which is beautifully shown in the music video for the track.Natiq and Circle Tone's production, with bass and drums, gives the track a retro Bollywood action scene feel while simultaneously adding an element of rush, making the feeling of anxiety tangible in a way that is felt throughout the track.
After the rush in 'Bhaagna,' Siege opens up about his issues in 'Chhupna,' discussing his overthinking, feelings of inferiority, and failed relationships. All of these emotions have stirred fear and pain in the heart of Siege, who now wants to hide from all of it by suppressing his emotions. Siege beautifully puts his feelings into words in this track, unburdening himself from the emotional load he has been carrying all along. The artist also reflects on a past relationship that failed due to their own issues. The track ends with a distorted version of Swar's intro, as Siege tries to find peace in all this emotional chaos, giving the intro more significance as a positive voice for the artist in his life.
After all the running and hiding, Siege is tired of it all and faces his demons head-on as he hops onto 'Doobna' with an aggressive demeanor. 'Kaala' provides an amazing hook to the track, fitting the intense and sorrowful energy of the track, as Siege talks about the struggle and pain-filled life he leads. Siege also appears to have lost all hope as he discusses God not helping him, the industry being a facade, and feeling like he has drowned. The toxic cycle of 'Bhaagna, Chhupna, Doobna' that Siege has been following all his life is finally broken by 'Tairna,' as he learns to swim through all his thoughts, fears, and demons. 'Tairna' starts with Swar's intro being played again, but this time clearer, signifying that Siege has found peace with himself.
The artist goes on to deliver a heart-touching poetic dialogue about his issues and past relationships, but this time around, it comes from a place of acceptance rather than anger.
The EP is not just a medium for releasing emotions and addressing the artist's issues, but also a message for people that 'You are not alone, and everyone is going through something.' Siege and Natiq have done a great job in guiding the listener through different emotions and situations, providing a clear perspective of what goes on in his mind. The project is a vulnerable piece of art for the artist, and letting it all out in front of the world is not an easy task, let alone in the way that Siege has done it, producing a heart-touching and motivating project in "BHAAGNA, CHHUPNA, DOOBNA."
